With XFree86 4.x development speeding up, I have placed an rsync tree of
my xfree86/ tree. This rsync tree can be grabbed with:
rsync -arvz penguinppc.org::xfree86-pmac .
This tree contains the 'bleeding edge' development server and drivers for
XFree86 4.x. Included are my development Mach64, IMS TwinTurbo 128/3D,
and Chips&Tech 6555x drivers. The tree also contains the latest Rage128
driver.
This is NOT a full xfree86, simply the xfree86 SERVER tree. Using this
tree is very simple, all you have to do is grab the X401src-1.tgz tarball
from ftp.xfree86.org, and replace the xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86
directory with the rsync'ed one.
For detailed instructions and information, see:
http://penguinppc.org/usr/xf4
The existence of this tree should facilitate development of these drivers
and keep me from having to constantly update binary drivers :)
Feel free to send me bug reports and/or patches against the tree.

Acceleration of ati is great. The problem, however, is that
it can not be used. When I used ati module, the color on X was
shifted to brown (or red?), and a lot of spectrum were
seen.
Use 8 or 15 bpp, nothing else worked for me.

Thank you for quick advice, and sorry for delayed response.
I'm away for a while.
Actually, my correspondign part of XF86Config is as the following;
Driver "ati"
# Driver "fbdev"
BusID "PCI:0:18:0"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
# Device "r128"
# Monitor "Monitor0"
Device "ATY,RagePro_C"
Monitor "iMac Monitor"
DefaultDepth 15
I also tried DefaultDepth 8, and both settings also gave me
a lot of spectrum and strange color on X.
Thanks a lot anyway.

And what exactly does the 15 and 8 bit subsections look like?
You will need fbbpp = 16 for 15 bit. And Ani's latest (yesterday's)
source has no color or accel problems whatsoever for me.

Great!!
I did rsync today, and all my problems vanished without
changing my XF86Config.
The result of x11perf -scroll500 is;
Sync time adjustment is 0.1772 msecs.
400 reps @ 15.3786 msec ( 65.0/sec): Scroll 500x500 pixels
400 reps @ 15.2951 msec ( 65.4/sec): Scroll 500x500 pixels
400 reps @ 15.2642 msec ( 65.5/sec): Scroll 500x500 pixels
400 reps @ 15.2559 msec ( 65.5/sec): Scroll 500x500 pixels
400 reps @ 15.2519 msec ( 65.6/sec): Scroll 500x500 pixels
2000 trep @ 15.2891 msec ( 65.4/sec): Scroll 500x500 pixels
So, X on my iMac runs about three times faster than it used
to with fbdev.
Thank you very much.
