0.9 shouldn't be the default if 1.0 or 1.x is better anyway :/

I don't think you can.  You just have to create a new array with the
new superblock.
Hmm. Looks like you're right.

Consider this to be a feature request, then. If 1.0 is more reasonable
than 0.9, there should be a "safe" upgrade path.
