I prefer variables that hold error codes to be called "error". Also, if you specify INPUT_MT_DROP_UNUSED as an additional flag for input_mt_init_slots() and use input_mt_sync_frame() when reporting events you would not need to track the state of contacts in your driver and explicitly release them.
