Attached are the boot logs via a serial port of a vanilla kernel built from 
the 2.6.18.1 source from kernel.org and the same soure with the libata patch 
(libata-tj-2.6.18.1-20061020) applied.  I get some extra messages at the end 
when I boot to a monitor. After "Creating /dev":

Time: tsc clocksource has been installed.
Creating initial device nodes
Setting up hotplug
Creating block device nodes.
Loading jbd.ko module
Loading ext3.ko module
Creating root device
Mounting rout filesystem
mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'
Setting up other filesystems.
Setting up new root fs
setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory
no fstab.sys, mounting internal defaults
setuproot: error mounting /proc: Nosuch file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory
Swicthing to new root and running init.
unmounting old /dev
unmounting old /proc
unmounting old /sys
switchroot: mount failed: No such directory


As you can see, it sees the drive attached to ata1 in both cases.  I imagine 
I'm doing something obvious wrong.

I've taken out the sil card and a scsi card to simplyfy things.

Also attached is the .config from the patched kernel compile and a listing 
of the contents of the initrd for the patched kernel.

serial or netconsole (Documentation/networking/netconsole.txt) and
report the failing boot log && please cc linux-ide@vger.kernel.org.
