(b) with the loss of facilities like kautobuild (no one noticed for six months that simtec had shut it down...), we have lost any kind of automated detection for these kinds of issues.Have Simtec /actually/ shut this down, or did it just die when kernel.org was hacked and nobody has poked it since then? The website is still up and doesn't seem to mention its demise: http://armlinux.simtec.co.uk/kautobuild/
I was about to ask same question. Last mail of the kauitobuild ml was from 2011-05-30 23:59:09 CEST(+0200) so before kernel.org death. I thought that Simtec developers were just too busy to fix it. All I hope is that it won't suffer from the same fate of the MIPS kautobuild instance because it was really nice and usefull (at least for me). Moreover, depending on which information was used by kautobuild, it may still be not available. rss for kernel versions and front page updates are now back but not the finger banner from http://www.kernel.org/kdist/finger_banner.
