RE: ibm_acpi and docking

Hi Li,

I am glad that you will develop/test docking support
on your T40, because it should be close to R50p. And
maybe the dock is the same.
I agree that suspend/resume work is more important
than docking.

If you need testing and logs, don't hesitate to let me
know. I can test docking with T41 and R50p for now.

Thanks,
Paul

Do you plan to extend a little bit your docking
capability in acpi-php ( R50p with dock) ?
I would be happy to help with testing and debugging
output.
What I am interested in, is proper docking support
when booted in dock and ACPI had the chance to see
all
quoted
devices.
For now I understood that we cannot provide hot
insertion of devices because of ACPIPNP does not
support it yet.
ACPIPNP originally supports hotplug, but we removed
the capability. The
reason is this will cause conflict because some
drivers directly use
ACPI. After fixing such drivers, we will reintroduce
the capability.

acpiphp can't handle PCI bridge hotplug is another
reason. I did some
investigation on how to make docking station work in
my T40 before, and
actually made all PCI devices work with a hack. But
I'm doing
suspend/resume, so the work is suspended now.

But if we had seen them at boot time, maybe it is
easyer to deal with.
No, acpiphp and ACPIPNP also can't support hot
remove.

Thanks,
Shaohua
