This could be a possible explanation for the problems that the two
Stefans are seeing: POSTing with XFree86 works because XFree86 does
the AGP restoration.

Remember that posting from kernel crashes without prior suspend and posting 
from console with lrmi works without X11.
Not loading intel-agp makes no difference(kernel mode crash, user mode works)
