The 2.4.20pre8 kernel seems perfectly stable on my Compaq EVO N800v... You can grab the 2.4.20pre8 patch against 2.4.19 from any of the kernel mirror sites (I use ftp.au.kernel.org naturally being in Australia). Check out www.kernel.org for the list of mirrors.
