You need to understand the SCM "problem space" at least a little bit.
Can't cheat on that unfortunately.

The writeup at http://www.dwheeler.com/essays/scm.html is not perfect,
but should give you a bit of background. It barely covers git -- we
need to prod the author to update it ;)
