CUI on serial port for ppc

Hi,
We want to develop a character based User interface ( like the ones
using  ncurses) for the bridge we develop on linux.
Platform : mpc 8260 ( ppc)
We need to provide pull down menus, list boxes and input fields on the
serial console (like hyper terminal).
I checked newt/curses. But don't have any idea how to put their output
to a serial port.
Any pointers/ideas/suggestions ?
