Input event "grabber" and "generator" for testing purposes

I was wondering if there is a tool that can "record" input events from a 
given interface and then another to somewhat "generate" the same events, 
with the proper timings, to reproduce several times the same exact input.
I intend to use this with a mouse and then feed a program I am testing.
