ACPI 20030424 killed hwclock on my tosh L2 L2 - indefinite hang. Using RH9: Add --directisa to hwclock in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit and /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt. For other dist, grep for hwclock in initscripts and change relevant scripts.
